January 2015

1/1 - This is the only picture I got of New Years!  It's a healthy-ish "doughnut" made by our friends the Miners.  We spent the holiday at their home in Park City... love that family!

1/3 - UFC fight night!  Matt has really been enjoying UFC ever since he saw a live event in Vegas with his brothers last year.  We've had a couple of viewing parties at our house recently.  The first time I watched it I cringed the whole time and then towards the end I found myself totally intrigued... it's like watching a disaster - you can't avert your eyes!

1/7 - Matt's bff from childhood, Brett Jensen, was in town from Japan for a couple of weeks.  He came with us to the Miners and to the UFC night, but he and Matt also got some one on one time on the slopes of Snow Basin.

1/9 - I had my bilateral mastectomy surgery.  Good times.

1/10 - When it rains, it pours... we had a repair man come to our home twice in December - once to fix our upstairs washer and another time to repair our garage freezer.  Now, we've had to replace our refrigerator.  As luck would have it, the fridge went out the night before my surgery!!  Thankfully, it was cold enough that we could store all our food in the garage until we could buy a replacement.  I bought the fridge sight unseen; we needed it asap and neither Matt nor I were in the position to go out shopping.  I looked online at a few stores and called around till I found one that would fit the space, coordinate with our other appliances, and could be delivered the fastest.  When it was delivered, the fridge was 1/8" too big for the opening but luckily Matt is working with a contractor on one of his business offices.  He swung by and removed a trim piece so that we could push the fridge into place.  It doesn't fit the space perfectly (our old fridge was a custom, cabinet depth kind) but it does the job.  To add insult to all this injury, our garbage disposal went out a few days later - our house is hitting the 10 year itch phase apparently and everything is falling apart!

1/12 - Bradley has not been feeling well for quite some time so we took him to the doctor to get checked out.  Turns out he's got walking pneumonia!  The second picture is of Matt and Will biding their time while they're waiting for Bradley's prescription to be filled - what goof balls!

1/17 - Lauren got her haircut - her bunch of (super thick) hair to donate is about 16" long!  It is SO, SO adorable and she's gotten a lot of compliments on it.

Just a random picture of my kids watching TV (probably Phineas and Ferb, that's something we all like).  I just remember this being a calm, lazy night and it made my heart happy to see all my kiddos together.

1/19 - The Eagles won the Grizz Cup championship!  Logan had two shutouts in the tournament (he's the goalie) and Bradley had a few goals.  B still isn't feeling well but he played anyway; it's hard to keep those teens resting!

After I took pics of Matt and Bradley in their "trophy hats" B grabbed the phone and started taking photo bursts.  I had over 100 pics of randomness.  The last picture of the bunch cracks me up because of my facial expression... lovely!  Kim, I think both you and I are capable and/or guilty of that funny little lip purse. ;-)

1/21 - Lauren started fencing!  She's been hesitant to join any sports since her martial arts sensei moved but finally decided on a replacement sport.  She really loves it! :)  These pics are from her introductory lesson, they taught her the moves and added the gear in a series.

1/22 - 4th Grade "Utah, This is the Place!" program.  Will wanted to dress as a miner - super cute.  He also had a part which he memorized perfectly and delivered clearly!!  The picture he's pointing to is his rendition of his favorite place in Utah - Lagoon!!

Speaking of school, Lauren's is going nicely.  She just started up with a pen, ink and calligraphy class and we are both loving her science curricula for this year - it's got a lot of fun projects and experiements!

1/26 - Heart test to make sure I'm strong enough for chemo.

1/26 - I came home from the hospital to see a Nerf war happening in the basement.  These things are always so cute and so fun... and then somebody gets hurt.  It never fails!!

1/27-28:  I was driving to a "Look Good, Feel Better" cancer class on Tuesday morning when I got multiple texts from Bradley.  He was in class and turned to look at the clock when his neck totally seized up on him.  He was in a lot of pain but both Matt and I were unable to come get him, so my sweet neighbor Molly went to pick him up.  I am so grateful for good neighbors!!  The following day we took B into the chiropractor and during the checkup he mentioned that he could still hear some gurgling in Bradley's lungs.  So, we also set up an appointment with our primary care physician to make sure B's walking pneumonia was all gone.  The doctor took x-rays of his lungs and everything was ok but he prescribed Bradley an inhaler to help him recover a bit easier.  You can see in the x-ray how unbalanced Bradley's shoulders are.  I think (and of course I'm right because I'm the mom, lol) that Bradley's neck seized up because of all the pressure and sickness he's been going through.  In addition to the pneumonia (that he didn't rest enough from), he's had to worry about the end of the term at school (he pulled a 4.0 this term btw, and he's got hard honor, AP and concurrent enrollment classes) and he's had the added pressure of a mom going through cancer crap.  That kid just needs a break!

1/28 - It was early out for the little boys all this week because it was the end of term, so my adorable aforementioned neighbor Molly and I took the kids to Yogotogo for "Weightless Wednesday."  That place is so overpriced, but the all-you-can-eat aspect of Wednesdays make it more fun for the kids and a bit more palatable for the budget.  Right after their treat, I took the boys to get their haircuts... that's how I roll - bribe the kids with ice cream to make getting their hair cut a bit less painful; aye, aye, aye!

1/29 - Chemotherapy.  The first time.

Right after chemo was over, Matt went with the boys to their SEP conferences and the book fair and I went to sleep.
