Reading Week

Reading Week at our school was Feb 25 - Mar 1; this was my 2nd year being the PTA chair in charge of it.  It was so much fun (and exhausting)... but I'm being positive here so, we'll focus on the fun!!  The theme of the PTA for the year is "Snow Horse...Horsepower" so we tied our theme to that with "Ready, Set, Read!!" and we tied everything together via a race car theme.  We teamed up with the 'Read Today' specialist at our school and she coordinated a great assembly with Rocky Mountain Raceway and Nadine Wimmer of KSL.  I think the kids got a kick out of it and it was fun to see our school highlighted on the news.  The lady wearing green in the top photo is Janel; she's was in charge of the assembly.
During the week the kids had dress up days, listened to guest readers, had "reading drills," entered slips for how long they'd read into drawings, decorated the halls with favorite book advertisements, and the week culminated in a "Grand Prix" family party on Thursday evening.  The party was super fun - simple carnival style games, crafts and treats all centered around our car theme.

The end... now I think I'll take a vacation. ;)

  1. What a great idea. It looks like the kids really got into it and had a great time. It must be rewarding to see all your hard work pay off.
